Sector retail sales fall in May, finds Barclaycard and British Retail Consortium

Overall Barclaycard consumer card spending grew 9.3% in May compared to the same period in 2021, inflated both by the rising cost of living, and because 2021’s demand was artificially dampened because of the travel and hospitality restrictions still in place – but gardening sector sales predictably fell.
