Partial shade, warmth and humidity are preferred environments for a healthy plant. It can be pruned to control the growth which will reach a maximum of approximately 12 feet. A seven foot tall tree is more typical of a mature plant for ease of harvesting. It is best to fertilize with a high quality controlled release formula like Osmocote's 15-9-12 or similar. These formulas can be effective for 3,6,9 or even 12 months depending on which is purchased, so reapply following the instructions on the bag purchased. Never use compost or manure because the nutrient release can be too rapid and unpredictable.
