Product Description
An evergreen shrub growing to 9". It is in leaf all year, in flower from May to June. The flowers are sweetly scented. The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils, acid and neutral soils and can grow in very acid soil. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland). It requires moist soil. A compact evergreen ground cover with dark glossy leaves. It produces white bell-shaped flowers that mature into red round berries. The aromatic berries and foliage contain wintergreen oil.
Zone 4-8.
Locations: Woodland, Sunny Edge, Dappled Shade.
Edible Uses: Fruit - raw or cooked. A sweet flavour. The fruit is about 3/8" in diameter.
The Wintergreen also makes an excellent house plant in a cool, partially shaded window.
